USF CERT responds to Tropical Storm Harry

USF CERT was invited to participate in a simulated mass casualty exercise at Universal Studios Florida, in Orlando. Hosted by the Florida CERT Association, this was the first exercise in 13 years.

Participating in the exercise were CERTs from all over the state, working together to find, triage, and treat simulated victims of a strong Tropical Storm passing through the busy theme park.

Due to our large presence at the event, USF CERT was split into two teams and partnered with Pompano Beach CERT to cover a designated area during the exercise, which required Search and Rescue operations, victim triage and transport, and medical operations.

This was a very valuable learning experience for our team, because it allowed the new CERT class to experience a mass casualty incident in a practice environment, demonstrating their new skills alongside CERT and local emergency responders.

USF CERT looks forward to participating in this exercise again in the future, as well as other exercises ran by the Florida CERT Association.
