Joining USF CERT
JOIN OUR TEAM
The first step to joining our team is to take our CERT Basic Training. This FREE 20-hour classroom based course is taught by certified FEMA CERT Instructors, and will teach you the hands-on skills and knowledge you need to know to respond to disasters and become a part of our team. After Basic Training, you will have access to several advanced training classes.

CERT Training can also be provided on-demand to organized groups of 10 or more. These on-demand classes are dependent on Instructor availability and may require participants or organizations to purchase their own Personal Protective Equipment. These group-specific classes are great team-building opportunities and result in Official FEMA Certification.

CERT Basic Training

This course includes six sections: Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety & Suppression, Hazardous Material and Terrorist Incidents, Disaster Medical Operations, Search & Rescue, and a Practical Exercise.
To become a CERT member, one must complete the classroom training being offered to USF students, staff, and faculty for FREE.
Trainees have the option to purchase USF CERT apparel and equipment during registration.
Training will occur over the course of three days, all participants must attend all three days of training to receive their CERT Basic Training Certificate.

• Practice basic Search and Rescue methods!
• Final Practical Disaster Exercise to practice skills!
• Participate in HOSA competitions in CERT!
• Official FEMA Certificate!
• Gain volunteer and community service hours!
Gain experience in the Public Safety and Emergency Management fields!
• Eligibility for service awards!
Registration is required, and space is limited.
